Otavalo es una pequeña ciudad en el Ecuador. Tiene aproximadamente 50.000 habitantes y es la capital del cantón del mismo nombre. El pueblo es mundialmente famoso por su población indígena, los llamados Otavalo, muchos de los cuales viajan por todo el mundo para vender sus famosas artesanías o tocar en grupos de música folk andina. Los Otavalo son considerados el grupo indígena económicamente más exitoso de América Latina.Será recogido de su hotel en Quito antes de dirigirse hacia Imbabura conocida como "La Provincia de los Lagos". La carretera ofrece una hermosa vista que pasa por los valles de Calderón y Guayllabamba. Habrá una breve parada aquí para conocer más detalles sobre la cultura local. Al pasar por Cayambe se puede ver el increíble volcán nevado (5.790 m.), El punto más alto del mundo atravesado por la línea del ecuador. Este pequeño pueblo también es famoso por sus galletas de sal con "queso de hoja" y "manjar". Puede hacer una parada aquí para probar este manjar, antes de continuar a la provincia de Imbabura, llamada así por el Volcán Imbabura. Esta excursión de Otavalo es una forma de descubrir y combinar el mercado indígena más famoso de Ecuador y algunos de los increíbles paisajes fuera de esta pequeña y acogedora ciudad.Este recorrido comienza con un trayecto panorámico por carretera al norte de Quito a través de las tierras altas de la Sierra.Haremos una primera parada en la Mitad del Mundo y luego continuaremos a Cayambe, donde podremos probar y aprender sobre los famosos bizcochos (galletas locales). Continuará hasta las preciosas cataratas de Peguche, un lugar histórico, ya que fue utilizado como baños especiales antes de las fiestas de Inty Raimy (festival del sol).Al llegar a Otavalo, exploraremos el animado mercado de Otavalo, en la Plaza de los Ponchos, el mayor mercado indígena de América del Sur, donde podrá comprar artesanía local.El día principal del mercado de Otavalo es el sábado, sin embargo, este recorrido puede realizarse cualquier día de la semana. Nuestro guía profesional le ofrecerá información sobre los indígenas de esta zona, como los quitu, los cara y otros grupos preincaicos, así como información sobre la ciudad. A tour focused on visiting three towns with their markets located north from Quito city. Each one of these locations are different from each other in terms of markets and artisans. Otavalo with the biggest textile market in South America, Peguche with the traditional weavers that work the textile by hand and Cotacachi with its leather market. This is a full day enjoying the northern landscapes and learning the culture of the region.Our tour starts in the morning with the pick up at your hotel. We will drive out of Quito to our first stop in Otavalo and “Plaza de Ponchos” where you will have time to walk around and do some shopping of textiles and handicrafts. The locals will always give you a higher price so don’t forget to bargain with them, it is part of the experience. Otavalo is consider one of the most famous indigenous markets in the world and the biggest in South America. A market full of color and life. Though the market is biggest on Saturdays, it is possible to visit any day of the week and find a great variety of fabrics and crafts. After a prudent time in the market for shopping or just to wander around, we will continue to Peguche Town and will visit a family that do their textiles weaving them by hand. This is a unique experience with a family that have been on this weaving work for more than 3 generations. We will continue to Cotachi town for lunch and the leather artisans. In here you will enjoy of some of the best leather products on a really good price. We will finish this tour here and will return to Quito afterwards.

Our guide will be happy to take you on this exciting 3-day excursion to two of the most popular tourist attractions in Ecuador; Otavalo and Mindo. Combining these two towns offers you a great mix of culture and beautiful landscapes. You will visit one of the best places to buy souvenirs and leather and one of the most biologically diverse regions in the world! Your guide will be happy to meet you at your hotel at 8 AM and take you on this 3-day private mini trip to two of the most popular tourist attractions. On our first day we will visit Otavalo, located about 2 hours from Quito. On our way we will stop at the San Pablo Lake where you will have an incredible view over the San Pablo Lake and the very fertile Imbabura volcano.  We continue our journey to Otavalo, an indigenous town especially known for their people who still wear their traditional clothing style. Besides they are known for their great capacity to weave textiles which are sold among musical instruments, leather golds and jewelry on their famous artisan handicraft market.  Just 10 minutes outside of Otavalo we will visit the beautiful Peguche waterfall. This 18 meter high waterfall is also considered an Indigenous Ceremonial Site.  Also we will visit Cotocachi where you will see for yourself why this artisan town is so famous for its leather goods and handricrafts. In the afternoon we will return to Otavalo where we will spend the night in a comfortable tourist class hotel.  On the second day we will head towards Mindo and witness the transformation of a dry and rocky environment into a lush cloud forest. But before getting there we will first make a stop at the Middle of the World Museum, where the unique characteristics of being on the Equator are demonstrated in several exciting experiments.
